ABOUT OSHTOORA

Explore line2

Oshtoora. A temporary state.

Oshtoora is a festival of music and arts. A collective of like minded initiatives. An ongoing experiment.

The festival is inspired by nature in both its design and operation. We set-up in a different location every year and when we leave, we leave nothing but our stories.

Participate. Oshtoora is a participatory gathering. Realizing that it is only as strong as its surrounding community, the festival is driven by collaborators who share its vision. We are part of a movement that is constantly growing.

FAREWELL

BY OSHTOORA

BY OSHTOORA

Wednesday January 11th, 2017

The following announcement is heavy on our hearts.

It is with a great deal of heartache that we announce that Oshtoora will not be happening anymore.

One of the main foundations of Oshtoora was to create a sustainable alternative model that would not only keep the festival alive but help it thrive. Oshtoora was a sponsor free, participatory festival and we felt that this was the true road to sustainability. We are proud of what we achieved, however it was not enough to keep the festival going.

LOCATION

Info line2
Location

This year Oshtoora is located in Fayoum, 100 kilometers southwest of Cairo.

Fayoum is home to some of the few waterfalls around, wonderful rock formations and Egypt’s annual pottery festival. It is also considered a resting ground for thousands of migratory birds, especially around Lake Qarun where large numbers of flamingos, grey herons and grebes can be spotted. The northern side of lake Qarun also hosts important fossil records of terrestrial primates, marine and terrestrial marshland mammals from the Eocene and Oligocene sequences.

Acomodation

Oshtoora is a camping festival, a culture that helps it remain light and mobile. As a participant you have an option of two: rent one of our tents or Bring Your Own Tent (BYOT).

This year, the Full Experience Pass automatically guarantees you a free of charge spot within the camping ground to set your tent, which will be assigned on first come first served basis. You can also rent one of our tents for the entirety of the festival. Either the 4x4 tent which accommodates a maximum of 5 people and costs 2000 EGP or the 4x6 tent accommodating a maximum of 9 people for 2600 EGP. Both tent types come ready with kileem as groundsheet. If your friends already rented a tent and still have space, you can always stay with them.

GETTING THERE

Info line2
Getting there

We provide buses to and from Oshtoora, and we generally encourage participants to sign up for Oshtoora’s buses or carpool with friends to reduce the number of cars coming out to the festival, which in turn reduces our overall impact on the environment. Bikes are welcome too.

The Oshtoora Bus will be leaving from Cairo on both 28 and 29 April and will return on May 2.

Oshtoora is a gathering. A sponsor-free celebration. A dreamy generation and a collective of forceful initiatives.

Participants are the backbone of the festival. The core team are only steering the ship, and we believe that the festival is only as successful as the cumulative effort of everyone who crosses its path.

By participating, you are helping sustain a community that is seeking alternatives.
